Another exciting summer is coming your way and we look forward to having you join us for the fun. We are offering 19 different specialty camps, 9 field trips, and our awesome day camp. As an added convenience, we will be providing transport service from our specialty camps to the Recreation Department. We want to make your experience this summer both fun and rewarding!

D A Y C A M P S

DISCOVERY CAMP • AGES 5-8

Experience one of the most enjoyable camps offered for young children. Your child will enjoy a fun filled week full of arts & crafts, swimming, games and excursions. Our trained staff will provide a caring environment, designed to promote self-reliance and confidence.

SURVIVOR CAMP • AGES 9-12
Join us this summer for nine weeks of new and adventurous activities. This camp offers youth an opportunity to experience a variety of activities designed to be challenging and rewarding.

FULL DAY • $110 per week • 7:30am - 6pm / HALF DAY • $70 per week • Daily Rate $30

During the morning hours, all campers will rotate through a variety of activities; ranging from sports, cooperative games, arts and crafts and other special events. In the afternoon, the camps will return to their age appropriate groups with occasional all camp activities offered. Our weekly summer themes will focus on the summer Olympics.

SUMMER SURF SAFARI
Learn to surf by experienced ocean expert, Warren Glaser. Using soft surfboards, participants will learn the basics of surfing and will acquire a new respect for the ocean.Participants must be confident ocean swimmers. All gear and transportation provided, except for water shoes, which are recommended.

HOLE-IN-ONE GOLF
Come experience fun golf training at the Ojai Valley Inn. You will receive instruction in iron play, woods, putting, short game and sand shots. Learn fundamentals and basic techniques. No equipment needed.

CHEERLEADING CAMP

Come learn the basics of cheerleading fromour very own Nordhoff cheerleaders. Participants will be introduced to the concepts of stunting, jumps, choreography, and basic cheer moves. Campers will perform with the Nordhoff cheerleaders at the 4th of July event. Cheering is a great form of exercise and a great way to meet new friends. No previous experience required.

FANTASTIC FENCING

En Guarde! Get ready for a unique and exciting camp that will help you develop hand-eye coordination, balance and foot speed. We have a young and talented instructor prepared to teach you the latest trends in the sport of fencing.

CAPOEIRA (KAH-POO-E-DA)CAMP

Capoeira is a blend of martial arts and dance set to the rhythmic music of Brazilian instruments. The Capoeira Camp is a great way to increase flexibility, agility, coordination, self-confidence, rhythm and strength. In addition, participants will learn the songs and instruments that are integral to the Capoeira culture.

FLAG FOOTBALL

Learn the fundamental skills of flag football through small group activities and scrimmages. Camp comes to a close on Friday with an exciting flag football tournament.

ENGINEERING FUNDAMENTALS WITH LEGOS

Take a “crash course” in Demolition Derby, design a Mighty Metropolis, challenge the Battle Track, build and race a Locomotive faster than a speeding Worm Drive. Explore concepts in physics, mechanical engineering, structural engineering, and architecture while playing with your favorite creations. Children will be given instruction, design challenges, and competitions appropriate to their facility with LEGO™ Technic and System components. This is a hands-on and minds-on class suitable for LEGO™ novices to “maniacs.”

CARD BOARD FAIRY TALE

MUSICAL THEATRE CAMP

Enjoy fun-filled activities while learning to sing, dance and act in your very own original Broadway Musical! The program will include: theater, dance, music, outdoor games and recreation, and special guest artists. This program is based on the California Content Standards for the Visual and Performing Arts.

Campers going into grades 1 through 6 can explore science in a fun and interactive way. Our quality hands on experiments, innovative curriculum and professional instructors bring your child’s understanding of science to the next level. Science Adventures will be offering four different one-week sessions, with a half-day and full-day option. SIMPLY ME

Welcome to Simply Me! An outstanding new summer camp for girls only. Simply Me provides opportunities for personal growth, self discovery, friendship and most of all FUN. We offer many activates such as; crocheting, scrapbooking, cooking, sewing, bargain shopping, games, slumber party and much more. These are essential ingredients to a great camp.

ROCK AND ROLL BOOT CAMP

Rock’n’Roll Boot Camp is for music students age 13-17 who know how to practice. If you play the keyboard, guitar, bass, drums, trumpet, trombone, or saxophone, and you are enthusiastic about music, then Rock’n’Roll Boot Camp might be for you. Each class will consist of warm ups, student presentations, small group practice, and rehearsal. We’ll work on sight-reading, improvising, theory, and song. On the final day of camp, we’ll offer a concert in the evening at the Rec. Center for our family and friends. Camp will be during the mornings, but students should plan on an additional 1-3 hours of practice time each evening.

COLOURFULLY YOURS POTTERY CAMP

Have you always wanted to make pots on a pottery wheel? Come and have a go at it! You will be eating breakfast out of your own handmade, decorated, glazed, and fired dishes. You will also have the opportunity to make coil pots and use a slab roller.

VENTURA COUNTY FUSION SOCCER

The Recreation Department and the Ventura County Fusion have joined forces to offer a unique opportunity to residents of the Ojai Valley. Ventura County Fusion is a new men’s soccer franchise that will combine high level soccer with family entertainment, featuring players formerly with U.S. national youth teams and top college players. Fusion’s coaches are licensed professionals who will teach basic soccer skills according to the developmental ages of the children, placing emphasis on learning through fun games, giving lots of playing time, and setting individual targets for measurable progress in skill development, assisted by star players from the Fusion team. Participants have the bonus of being able to meet their instructors at a Fusion home game and watch the team in action free of charge.

RIDE LIKE THE WIND HORSE CAMP

The Ojai Recreation Department is offering a Western Horsemanship Camp for beginning riders. Each session will focus on horse anatomy, grooming and care, and the fundamentals of western horseback riding. Please bring a drink and a snack. Camp will include arts ‘n crafts, science and hiking activities. Transportation provided to and from horse camp when you register for the Ojai Recreation Department’s half-day camp!

Join well-known Ventura County artist Chris Martinez for a fun and creative cartooning camp. You will be introduced to several forms of cartooning and will work with a variety of drawing tools. WILDLIFE SCIENCE & NATURE CAMP

Wildlife Science and Nature Camp is one of the most exciting summer camps offered to adventurous, curious and fun-loving campers ages 8 - 13. Join us for a week of action packed adventures in Ojai and beyond through arts & crafts, games, hikes, exploration, and real life experiences in the wildlife. This adventurous week includes a one-night campout at Lake Casitas and a trip to the Lake Casitas Water Park.

BABYSITTERS BOOT CAMP

The Ojai Recreation Department will be partnering with the American Red Cross to offer a week-long babysitting training course. Participants who complete the course will receive CPR, First-aid, and babysitting certifications. The purpose of the American Red Cross Babysitter’s Training course is to provide individuals, ages 11 to 15 with the information and skills necessary to provide safe and responsible care for children in the absence of parents or adult guardians. The training will help participants develop skills in leadership and professionalism; basic care; safety and safe play; and first aid.
